Apollo 11 is the fifth manned mission in the Apollo program of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and is the first mission to the moon. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the moon. The success of Apollo 11 achieved the goal of President John F. Kennedy’s speech on May 25, 1961, which stated that the United States would “send an astronaut to the moon and bring him back safely” by 1970.
